Yesterday several neighboring subnets in our Long Island datacenter were targeted with a 1.25 Gbps RIPv1 reflection DDoS attack. While this is not an overly large attack stream, the nature of the attack was such that it was able to induce increased latency and packet loss in the core of the network. Last night additional routing and filtering changes were made in order to completely block the attack stream before it reaches us. The network has been operating normally since these changes were made. Naturally we are continuing to monitor performance at all times.
Additional DDos protection will be added at the edge of the network over the the next 72 hours or so. This will provide protection against this particular attack, and even much larger attacks, going forward. As this is implemented we will update again to confirm completion.
